Bunny started the whole thing. I made my first one a dozen years ago for a friend to place in an arboretum. I saw how people interacted with it and it was definitely an aha moment. I placed him in an outdoor show for a year in Charleston, South Carolina then he sat in front of the Super Dome in New Orleans for 5 years. Today, many different sizes and colors reside all over the world in private collections, museums and galleries. In my work before Bunny (B.B.) I was always obsessed with the void - what does it all mean, the big why of it all. The eyes of every sculpture I create are rooted in these thoughts. The French have a word (they always have a word) l’appel du vide which translates - into the void. It’s the impulse you have when standing on a cliff to jump. You never do but most people have this feeling. I know, a little heavy for a silly rabbit.
